Oxford Flow receives $25M funding from bp Ventures and EIP
bp Ventures and EIP co-led the $25 million Series C funding round that will be used to scale up Oxford Flow’s operations.
Originally founded by Professor Thomas Povey in 2015, Oxford Flow is a spin-out of the Oxford Thermofluids Institute (OTI), an internationally renowned facility for aerospace solutions for jets and rockets, at the University of Oxford. The company’s technology has no mechanical drive train, stem or diaphragm, mitigating failure modes and leak paths and helping to address some of the challenges faced by the energy sector including improving valve reliability, reducing maintenance costs, and minimising fugitive emissions.
Oxford Flow announces significant investment to accelerate product development and deployment
Oxford Flow, the flow control equipment specialist for energy, water, and industrial process industries, today announces a significant investment from GF Piping Systems into its subsidiary OFUI. The investment will support its ambitious growth plans.
This announcement follows the company achieving major business milestones over the last 18 months, since GF Piping Systems’ initial investment into OFUI in March 2020. Key milestones included broadening market acceptance of the innovative pressure control technology and refining new manufacturing processes. Additionally, OFUI’s intellectual property portfolio has been further bolstered by patents in Europe and the USA.
The investment will drive the expansion of OFUI’s operations globally as well as focus on product development. For example, the company is advancing its portfolio of intelligent technology and developing its first intelligent valve. This innovation will enable water networks to remotely track and visualise data, such as pressure and water quality, and provide real-time control and automation. These technologies allow network operators to optimise and control performance without using mains electricity.
Oxford Flow secures £8.45m investment to accelerate oil and gas product deployment
Oxford Flow, the flow control equipment specialist for oil, gas, water and industrial process industries, has raised £8.45m to fuel the company’s expansion across all markets and oil and gas product development. The funding has been secured from eight parties, with existing investors Oxford Sciences Innovation (OSI), Parkwalk, Oxford Investment Consultants and the University of Oxford contributing a total of £5.6m. The remaining amount is made up by GF Piping Systems, a division of Georg Fischer, a Swiss leader in fluid transfer equipment, individual investor Nick Harbinson and companies associated with GK Goh, the Singapore-based investment group.
Oxford Flow has re-imagined the actuated valve utilising the latest in sealing and materials technology. Its stemless valve design is unique: instead of a stem and mechanical gearbox, the valve is actuated by a hydraulic piston integrated within the valve body. The innovation is so unique that it has been shortlisted for an SPE Offshore Achievement Award in the Emerging Technology category.
