Cognite and Equinor Enter Robotics Collaboration To Accelerate Autonomous Industry
Cognite, a globally recognized leader in industrial software, announced a joint robotics project with Equinor, an international energy company, to improve Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) initiatives at the company’s onshore facility Mongstad, outside of Bergen, Norway.
Developed in conjunction with Adigo and Createc, the project establishes robust routines, systems, and standards governing the utilization of robots within onshore facilities. To enhance safety in hazardous environments, the project will employ a combination of robots, IP cameras, and IoT sensors for remote inspections throughout Mongstad.
Adigo recently launched the new generation of the versatile robot platform VÅK, capable of handling heavy payloads (30kg) and long working hours (8h) before autodocking for charging. VÅK will be used for autonomous transport of water samples from several points in the water treatment plant, operating 24/7. At each sampling point, Adigo installed a system to deliver fluid samples to the robot. Adigo VÅK will drastically reduce the need and presence of personnel in hazardous areas.
Seeq Selected by Equinor for Enterprise-Wide Analytics
Seeq, a leader in industrial analytics, AI, and monitoring, and Equinor, an international energy company, announced a multi-year commercial agreement for the Seeq Industrial Analytics and AI platform to be leveraged across Equinor’s global assets to further accelerate digital transformation outcomes.
Through the agreement, Equinor will implement Seeq to empower its engineering teams to optimize production and improve energy performance across a variety of assets. Initially, the company plans to leverage Seeq to monitor well and process behavior, thereby gaining a deeper understanding of daily operations to maximize production, enhance workforce collaboration and increase efficiency.
Amitec, a Norway-based, Seeq-certified partner with deep expertise in the energy industry, will support the Seeq implementation for Equinor.
Recycling from ABB significantly increases maximum gas production
New control algorithms for the electric frequency converters have significantly increased the maximum power that can be supplied to the export compressors. It makes it possible to increase the maximum gas export out of the plant.
Upgraded control of electric frequency inverters has averted 126 stops of export compressors since October 2019. As a bonus, the available power has been significantly increased, and together with new control algorithms on the compressor side, this contributes to an increase in maximum gas exports from Kollsnes to Europe Digitalisation pilot ensures data capture and documents the improvements.
Customize large language models with oil and gas terminology using Amazon Bedrock
The Norwegian multinational energy company Equinor has made Volve dataset, a set of drilling reports available for research, study, and development purposes. (When using external data, be sure to abide by the license the data is offered under.) The dataset contains 1,759 daily drilling reports—each containing both hourly comments and a daily summary—from the Volve field in the North Sea. Drilling rig supervisors tend to use domain-specific terminology and grammar when describing operations in both the hourly comments and the daily summary. This terminology is standard in the industry, which is why fine-tuning a foundation model using these reports is likely to improve summarization accuracy by enhancing the LLM’s ability to understand jargon and speak like a drilling engineer.
Generative AI has the potential to improve efficiency by automating time-consuming tasks even in domains that require deep knowledge of industry-specific nomenclature and acronyms. Having a custom model that provides drilling engineers with a draft of daily activities has the potential to save hours of work every week. Model customization can also help energy and utilities customers in other applications that involve the generation of highly technical content, as is the case of geological analyses, maintenance reports, and shift handover reports.
Sapphire Technologies Secures $10 Million Series B Funding to Accelerate Clean Energy Solutions
Sapphire Technologies, developer and manufacturer of energy recovery systems for hydrogen and natural gas applications, announced that it closed its Series B funding round. The $10 million investment — led by Energy Capital Ventures and joined by Marathon Petroleum, Chevron Technology Ventures, Equinor Ventures and Cooper and Company — will go toward accelerating the commercialization of Sapphire Technologies’ FreeSpin® In-line Turboexpander. Powered by this funding, targeted projections show the turboexpander increasing production by 400% by the end of the year. Moreover, the $10 million will bolster resources and expertise to support Sapphire Technologies’ mission to significantly reduce global carbon emissions.
